Maen Llia

Maen Llia

Maen Llia is a large broad standing stone situated in the Brecon Beacons national park.It is thought to date back to the bronze age

It is quite accessible as it can be reached by a short walk from a main road. The stone is quite imposing and as with most standing stones quite exposed. Unfortunately the stone has been defaced over the years by vandals. Some of the graffitti is quite old dating back to the 19th Century. Despite it's width the stone is quite slim as you can see from the photo below.

The base of the stone is badly weathered and in wet weather the stone is surrounded by a fairly deep puddle. If you are going to visit the stone please be careful to not cause further erosion. The stone is fairly easy to find as it is off the XXXX. Be warned though some older OS maps show the stone on the wrong side of the road. The correct OS reference is SN 924192.

Folk tales associated with Maen Llia
Unfortunately I have not been able to find any stories associated with the stone. In fact it has been pretty hard to find any mention of it despite it's size and accessible location. If anyone does know of any stories please contact me.
